Dreamforce 2013: Project and Work Management for

With over 100,000 attendees, Dreamforce 2013 was a great event!  Held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, EPM Live was one of the App Exchange vendors exhibiting at the Cloud Expo. The show floor was bustling with Salesforce users who were not only interested in expanding their knowledge and skills on the Salesforce platform but how they can expand their Salesforce solution into other areas of the business.

Dreamforce 2013, better known as #DF13, was definitely a show for the records. By far the largest conference I have ever been to! Dreamforce took over the entire city of San Francisco. Attendees were easily spotted around the city with their Dreamforce backpacks and lively conversations about their experience at the conference. Their enthusiasm about the educational sessions and insightful keynotes from thought-leaders who included Salesforce Founder Marc Benioff, Yahoo! President & CEO Marissa Mayer, and Deepak Chopra, MD, Fonder of The Chopra Foundation, was evident in the Cloud Expo.

The EPM Live booth, decked out for Football season, was always busy in conversation with the Dreamforce audience. Many attendees were curious to learn more about EPM Lives’ ability to extend Project and Work Management with enhanced collaboration features directly into Salesforce. Although we know people were also excited about entering our raffle for a chance to win a $500 Official NFL Gift Basket, including game day tickets!

The EPM Live for Salesforce App brings allows executive and sales personnel to view all of their critical information from within  It provides sales teams the ability to collaborate with project teams via the cloud to bring global portfolio and project visibility, work management, and issue management to fruition.  Project teams are able to provide sales, marketing, customer success and executives with the information they need to close new business, increase customer satisfaction and fuel expansion within their pipeline.  In this process, all users are able to remain in their system of preference, working the way that makes them the most productive.

Upland Brings New Excitement to PPM and Work Management at the Gartner PPM and IT Governance Summit

It sure was an eventful couple of days at the Gartner PPM and IT Governance Summit in National Harbor, MD.  Attendees and vendors were all a buzz with whispers of “Upland? What’s Upland?”

It’s not a question of what is Upland; it’s a question of who is Upland. The new Upland brand is officially the world’s largest provider of cloud-based enterprise software for project, portfolio and work management, with 1,200 enterprise clients and 300,000 active users in 50 plus countries.

The Gartner PPM & IT Governance Summit 2013 is the premier gathering of program and portfolio management executives focused on improving how organizations select, implement and manage IT initiatives and services. And it was our pleasure to launch Upland at the conference and share the news with all the curious attendees!

As a premier sponsor, Upland took the Summit by storm. Quickly the crowd gathered to learn about our award winning products. With three active demo stations, there was never a dull moment at the Upland booth.

During the Summit, Upland had the great pleasure of hosting a speaking session as well as a roundtable discussion.

Those who attended Upland President, Ludwig Melik’s speaking presentation were blown away by his charisma and compelling points on the session topic, “Crossing the Chasm Between Portfolio & Execution Level PPM.” The presentation was an analogy made popular in a presentation by Steven Covey. The key takeaway of Ludwig’s session was the need to factor in the “big rocks” (important priorities), first for PPM to be successful. Using the big rocks, little rocks visual presentation, Ludwig entertained the crowd while providing a powerful message to the audience.  Special thanks to our valued customer Mari Skippers from Eaton Corporation, the presentation was especially great thanks to you.You are awesome!

Gartner Upland Presentation

Our popular roundtable discussion was led by Doug Riseberg, VP of Upland Professional Services & Support. The topic of discussion was, “Launching and Maintaining a ‘Just Right’ PPM Approach.” The room was lined with attendees as they shared insight, challenges and concerns on this hot topic.

Finally we ended the conference by bringing the house down with our hospitality suite event. We rolled out the red carpet (literally, the theme was a Hollywood PremierJ) for attendees and with the DJ spinning the latest hits we partied the night away.

Upland Hospitality Party

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Upland booth, it was such a pleasure meeting you, cheers to our next encounter. Learn more about Upland!

Congratulations on Another Successful EPM Live Boot Camp!

Congratulations to our EPM Live training team for hosting another top-notch Boot Camp!   Last week, Mark Fish, our Director of Training & Development, and his team provided attendees with an end-to-end understanding of our latest release of EPM Live, version 4.3.  At the conclusion of the event, every attendee was very excited to move to the new 4.3 version so that they could leverage all the new and exciting capabilities!   You can learn more about version 4.3 here.

At EPM Live, we understand that training is critical to ensure a high degree of user adoption, as people tend to ignore what they do not know how to use and embrace what they feel comfortable using.   Our customers have invested a great deal in deploying an Enterprise Project, Portfolio and Work Management tool.  As with any enterprise deployment, they face two main risks:  adoption risk and productivity risk.  To mitigate these risks, we want to help our customers and partners understand the technology in the context of their work.  They should become fluent in the use of EPM Live so that it becomes part of their user’s workstyle.

Some organizations mistakenly think you train users once and you’re done.  But successful training isn’t a one-shot effort.  In fact, we had several attendees attending their second or third boot camp!  This is why EPM Live offers a wide variety of continuous training options for our customers and partners from EPM Live University, Boot Camps, Train-the-Trainer, as well as custom training.  We’re 100% behind our customer’s success!

The Boot Camp was scheduled for four days covering a broad range of topics, and also included Q&A sessions with technical experts and product developers.   This was a landmark for the EPM Live partner program, as Matt Wilson, our Director of Partner Strategy, and his team launched
the official EPM Live Certification Program so that Partners can efficiently deploy EPM Live for customers.

To maintain our work hard, play hard mentality, we decided to host a surprise costume contest for our customers and partners who are at the EPM Live headquarters for a training boot camp.  Needless to say I think our boot campers were pretty entertained! Once our costume parade ended we all had the chance to mingle with each other.  You can see more about our “Spooktackular Halloween” event here. We hope to see you at our next Boot Camp event!

But don’t take my word for it!  See for yourself from our very own EPM Live Customer & Partner quotes below:

“The opportunity to meet people responsible for different aspects of the product/company, including the trainers, developers, architects, account managers, CEO, as well as the partners. It’s nice also to be able to place a name with a face with those we interact with on-goingly. All-in-all I walked away with a great sense of appreciation for the company and all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”

“I just wanted to say thank you to the entire staff at EPM Live for a wonderful experience at the 4.3 Boot Camp.  The information you shared was extremely helpful in understanding the product in depth and the new structure for 4.3 and how it will help improve performance going forward”

“I also I really liked the sessions for workflow and reporting, which can really add to the end user experience and help satisfy executive managements needs for reporting that is so vital to managing our business.”

“The enthusiasm that the EPM staff had about the company really showed, even into the late evening hours at the happy hour, and it is contagious.  I even got a chance to talk to Joe Larscheid (CEO) and hear about the early days at EPM and the vision going forward.”

“I liked that we were able to have breakout sessions for partners, have access to the staff and their expertise and brainstorming with other partners & customers.  The facilities were great, nice location and food great.”

“Having also had the opportunity to meet other members of the organization, I must say that everyone was very friendly and it was a pleasure meeting them all.”

“YOU ALL ROCK!  Especially Big F. aka Mark Fish. We are very excited to partner with such a dynamic and talented group of innovators!”

EPM Live's Project Management Software Stands Out at the Gartner PPM Summit

This past week EPM Live exhibited at the Gartner PPM and IT Governance Summit 2012. Held at the beautiful Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland, it turned out to be another exciting show for EPM Live.

The exhibit hall opened Monday morning with a surge of attendees coming through the open doors excited about seeing all the PPM solutions being highlighted on the show floor.  Immediately, the EPM Live  booth became packed with attendees ready for demos of our product and loaded with questions.

EPM Live’s All Users, All Work, All Processes in one centralized location approach to PPM was an attractive concept to attendees. The EPM Live solution allows users of all maturity levels to collaborate and work at a level that is comfortable to them, increasing user adaptability within the organization. Bringing in all work and not just project tasks allows project managers to accurately understand which projects and types of work are consuming their most valuable resources and allowing them to effectively realign staffing plans based on changing priorities and budgets. EPM Live also supports Agile and Waterfall PPM methodologies as well as leveraging pre-built solution application templates for Application Portfolio Management, Professional Services Automation, New Product Development, and IT Planning and Control.

By far the most popular EPM Live edition at the Gartner PPM Summit was PortfolioEngine, our strategic top-down portfolio planning tool. Although our three editions build on top of each other creating a robust amount of capabilities for the user to leverage, some of the attendees favorite capabilities of PortfolioEngine, our top tier edition, was the Portfolio Management, Financial Management, Demand Management, What-If Modeling and Reporting.

And of course, it would not be an EPM Live event without an unforgettable grand finale!  EPM Live closed out the event with a VIP after party at the world famous Bobby McKey’s Dueling Piano Bar.  Gartner PPM Summit attendees as well as a little friendly competition all wanted in on the fun as they joined EPM Live for a night of dancing, singing and costuming!  We look forward to seeing everyone again in the near future!

EPM Live Selected to Speak on Project Management Innovation at UCSD

It was an evening of Innovation and Inspiration for the MBA students at UCSD Rady School of Management as they gathered with the top INC 5000 companies in San Diego Tuesday evening.

The reception kicked off with a speech from Robert Sullivan, Dean of Rady School of Management. His excitement about the program and the future of these thriving minds was infectious. Dean Sullivan spoke about The Rady School of Management and their passion to provide an education for individuals seeking growth and professional success. Some of the statistics that were provided were astonishing.  Many of the Fortune 500 companies had 0% job growth in 2011 while many of the small businesses, inlcuding EPM Live, are topping the fastest growing companies charts while also being recognized as the innovators of today.  In San Diego alone, there are an average of 80 start-ups per quarter.  There are 6,000 tech companies making up over 4 billion in payroll.  Top sectors include tourism, military and technology.

The Rady MBA program is unlike any other business school with its unique culture of innovation, it attracts individuals who are looking to challenge business status quo.  The students come from diverse professional backgrounds who share in the excitement of discovery and innovation. They recognize the growth of any industry, emerging and established, is led by those building bridges between business and science and technology.

EPM Live was amongst the few handpicked organizations asked to represent the most innovative companies in San Diego. Our story of innovation began as Project Management consulting firm who discovered the gaps in the existing PPM software market after completing over 500 PPM implementations.  With a strong customer-centric vision and a long history of experience, EPM Live analyzed the common challenges of our customers and began to develop what would soon become one of the industry’s leading Enterprise Project, Portfolio and Work Management solutions. Today we are a global leader and continue to push the boundaries of traditional project management with our cutting edge solutions. Specializing in bringing together All Users, All Work and All Process in one central location, EPM Live truly provides a project management solution for everyone in your organization.

“Thank you so much for participating in our annual Innovation and Inspiration event.  We have heard nothing but positive feedback from our students about the evening.  It was exciting to have a spotlight put on EPM Live. Certainly your story of success is inspiring to our MBAs who hope to be a part of a dynamic company like yours some day!” said Amy Nastase,  MBA Career Connections Assistant, UCSD Rady School of Management.

I think Bill Gates said it best, “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” The Rady MBA students were excited, ambitious and ready to dive into their next chapters of professional growth, wanting to empower business leaders and peers alike.

6th Annual Birthday Bash for EPM Live CEO

At any given moment at EPM Live you can hear not only the pitter patter of fingers feverishly typing keyboards but you hear the waves of laughter filling our hallways and meeting rooms. The bond amongst EPM Live employees and management alike creates an environment for thriving minds to bounce ideas off each other and create new innovative ways to continuously push the boundaries of traditional Project Management. Everybody knows that when you work hard, you play hard and EPM Live is no exception!

This past weekend EPM Live employees gathered for the annual birthday celebration of our beloved CEO, Joe Larscheid. Joe is truly one of a kind and we all look forward to counting down the days to this celebration!

Just like our award winning software, EPM Live employees were “Ready to Rock!” as we gathered at Joe’s house ready to board our limo bus to downtown San Diego for a memorable night out on the town!

No EPM Live event would be complete without dressing up like our favorite Rockstars, cue the picture of our Senior Product Developer, Senior Escalation Engineer, and CEO….  Gotta love it!

It was an evening I know I will never forget and the opportunity to let loose with my colleagues outside of the workplace has brought a heightened comradery today around the EPM Live office.

A note from Joe:

“EPM Live appreciates that our team is  a set of true “Rock Stars” that set our company apart from the rest!  Our number one asset is our employees – they are the backbone behind the quality of products and services we are so proud of today!

To demonstrate their incredible loyalty and appreciation, each year the employees of EPM Live celebrate my birthday with a killer party encompassing all things rock star – with the main event including a limo bus ride down to an exclusive club in downtown San Diego.  This has been an annual event for over 6 years now allowing our team to bond away from the office.  I truly appreciate and thank the team for another great birthday and look forward to many more!!”

Well we thank you Joe and rest assure we’re all looking forward to more shenanigans next year! At EPM Live we believe that together we can achieve more and we appreciate the opportunity to enjoy an evening of fun with the whole team! Remember…what happens on the bus, stays on the bus 😉  Till next year! Happy Birthday Joe, thanks for truly being the BEST CEO any employee could ask for!
