Tech Tuesday – Understanding the Project Update Methods in EPM Live!

During this week’s Technical Tuesday webinar, we’d like to take you inside EPM Live to show you how data flows from one place to another. Specifically, we will explain how data gets populated into several project fields such as Project Start, Project Finish, Project Work, Project Percent Complete, etc.

EPM Live offers two project update methods: Manual and Schedule Driven. Selecting one or the other for a given project makes a difference to the values of the mentioned fields above when you publish your project schedule. This webinar will clear up questions like, “Why is it, that after I publish my project schedule, there are some visual discrepancies in my Project Start and Project Finish dates?”

We will explain why you might use one separately or in conjunction with the other. Join us for thisTech Tuesday where we will demonstrate how we use both project update methods available in EPM Live.

Realizing the Business Value of PPM – What to Expect When Implementing PPM

Organizations who strive to improve their Project Portfolio Management (PPM) processes by leveraging a PPM tool are given a strategic advantage in today’s market.

Project Portfolio Management (PPM) is a set of business practices that bring projects together into tight integration with other business operations synchronizing strategies, resources and executive oversight. PPM provides the structure and processes for project portfolio governance.

Benefits of a PPM tool provide the organization a centralized location for stakeholders, PMs and project team members to easily view project portfolio items, resource demands, tasks, and project costs. It provides structure and standardization for project selection and execution and should be flexible to let users work the way that is most comfortable to them, improving user adoption and productivity. PPM solutions streamline collaboration between all invested personnel by providing easily accessible dashboards and reports and enabling more accurate and timely decision-making. Overall a good PPM solution provides the organization the toolset for selecting the right projects, improving ROI and creating a leading business edge.

Join us in this one hour webinar as we show you the business value of PPM. Topics to include:

  • Strategic Alignment Across Your Portfolio

Consolidating all work within your organization is critical in prioritizing work and allocating resources.  Centralization of all work creates global visibility so better decisions can be made.  Eliminate work that generates a low value result and get a true representation of business impact that proposed work will have on your portfolios.

  • Communication Across Your Organization

Segregated data can lead to misinformed team members and rework.  Leverage PPM to improve project and work collaboration so your teams are all on the same page and decisions can be made in a timely manner.  Overall visibility and accountability across your portfolios will provide better business results.

  • Standardization, Best Practices and Governance

Streamlined processes are a necessity when it comes to maximizing efficiencies.  PPM can automate your processes to ensure the right decisions are being made based on best practice KPIs and other key metrics criteria.  Implement workflow for prompt approvals and standardized governance.  Determine methodology structure by work type to implement repeatable processes.

  • Work Productivity and ROI

Work productivity can always be improved.  Leverage PPM to prevent mismanagement of data and enforce templatized data entry.  Organizational maturity is essential in understanding your users.  Ensure every user has the tools needed to work the way they work best.  Work is managed in various ways depending on the type of work it is.  Leverage the right tools for the right work for maximum productivity and ROI.

Case Study – How to Get More Out of Your Project Server Deployment

Project Server is a powerful application that many of EPM Lives’ customers are leveraging to centralize and manage their project schedules.  It has a robust database back-end that allows for storing enterprise resources, field attributes, field calculations, and more.   Many of our customers are looking to leverage their investment and extend their solution to manage more than just the tasks and schedules in their projects and programs.  Some organizations also want to track time-phased project budgets broken down by labor type, capital vs. expense, hardware vs. software, overheads, contingency, etc.  Because many organizations have limited resources who should be working on the highest priority effort, they also must perform high-level resource planning, capacity vs. demand analysis, and scenario modeling of their overall work effort including non-project work. Many times, these functions are required long before a detailed Project Server schedule at the task level is established.  Those users who may not think they are ready for Project Server sometimes get left behind.

The EPM Live approach enables organizations to extend the Project Server to reach a broader audience and meet the needs of the entire organization regardless of area of focus, methodologies or maturity.

Implementing Enterprise Project Portfolio Management for a Multi-maturity Organization

An enterprise system typically isn’t tailored to meet the needs of ALL users.  An enterprise system is just that, a tool to be shared and used by the entire organization.  The problem is that most teams in an organization work differently.  They have different processes, they follow different leaders, they have different areas of focus, and most of all, they are at different maturity levels within the PM maturity.  In fact, most likely you have non-PMs running projects somewhere across your organization.  A PPM system must allow you to define your enterprise needs and then customize the tool to meet the needs of individual teams, project managers, or departments.  If each user understands that the tool will meet their needs and resolve their pain points, everyone wins.  Executives get to see what they need across the enterprise and individual teams can work the way they work to make the tool effective.  Usability equals success in an enterprise system, and the data outputs are only as good as the information going into the tool.

Join us in this one hour webinar as we show you how to deploy Enterprise Project Portfolio Management for your multi-maturity organization.  Topics include:
